Laughs and lessons. These are two things Ontario Richardson is guaranteed to bring into any room - whether it is a living room, boardroom, or even a newsroom. Ontario and I met in 2002 at WLOX in Biloxi, Mississippi. I was a weekend anchor and reporter; she was an editor. She was great at her job, and her personality was even greater. We all knew of her dream of being in front of the camera. However, for several years, she remained behind the scenes. During that time, she added humor and wisdom to the newsroom on a regular basis, telling jokes and even talking about her faith. She fulfilled her dream of being in front of the camera, and eventually took her talents to a higher television market - where she was allowed to anchor several broadcasts. Ontario continues to possess the same perseverance that I saw in her years ago. She is a go-getter who has never allowed "no" to be a permanent answer - only temporary. Her story is an excellent example of someone who makes the best of any situation, and succeeds no matter what life throws his or her way.
Ontario is such an inspiring person. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing her for many years. She was a photographer at WLOX-TV in Biloxi, MS when I was an intern there during college in 2003, which is where I first looked up to her. I was very excited when we became co-workers at WDAM-TV in Hattiesburg, MS a few years later. I was especially moved by Ontario’s faith through her dad’s illness and passing. When things get tough, it’s easy for us to blame God for our hard times and question His love for us. But Ontario was the perfect example of God’s grace. I never heard her question His will for her dad or herself during that burdensome time. I lost my own dad when I was a teenager, so I really admired Ontario as she walked that heart-breaking road. For countless reasons, I am so proud to call Ontario my friend.
Ontario Richardson is not only a good friend to me but also to my family. Our friendship dates back to the late ninety’s before I had a family of my own. Over the years Ontario and I have grown together like siblings. I watched her evolve from a college student studying to be a journalist to now a progressing professional. There are several facets of my sister. I love is her funny personality that makes us smile, her genuine care for people and the passion to boldly speak truth for justice. On behalf of the Reimonenq family Liz, Tony III, Jarius, and Julius, we love and support you.
